Bursary Awardee Announced

Hen Hoose and We Are Here Scotland are delighted to announce Momo Iona Ueda as the recipient of their collaborative bursary initiative. This programme, designed to break down barriers in music production, will provide comprehensive studio experience and industry mentorship to an emerging talent who has previously faced systemic barriers to accessing such resources.

Momo Iona Ueda, a Scottish-Japanese musician and sound artist based in Edinburgh, brings a unique perspective to Scotland's diverse musical landscape. Her practice, which bridges the gap between artistry and technology, encompasses both recordings and live performances. Beginning her musical journey with classical violin at age four, Momo has evolved her artistic practice to embrace popular and experimental music, finding freedom in these genres beyond the constraints of traditional institutional music-making.

Her selection for this bursary reflects both her artistic potential and the initiative's commitment to supporting diverse voices in Scotland's music industry. As part of the bursary, Momo will receive:

  • A full day in a professional recording studio with state-of-the-art equipment

  • One day of dedicated production support to develop song arrangements and recording techniques

  • Three hours of industry mentoring covering crucial aspects such as music release strategies, career development, and promotional tactics

This collaboration between Hen Hoose, a Creative Scotland-funded songwriting collective amplifying female and non-binary voices, and We Are Here Scotland, a Community Interest Company dedicated to elevating BPoC artists, represents a significant step toward creating more inclusive opportunities in Scotland's creative sectors.

Momo's work, which spans solo laptop-based compositions to ensemble performances, exemplifies the innovative spirit this bursary aims to nurture. Her upcoming studio sessions and mentoring, scheduled for February-March 2025, will provide valuable support in developing her unique artistic voice while gaining essential industry insights.
