Empowering Voices in Music: Studio Experience Bursary for BPoC Women and Non-Binary Musicians

Hen Hoose and We Are Here Scotland are delighted to announce a collaborative bursary opportunity. This unique initiative seeks to break down barriers and provide valuable studio experience to someone who has previously lacked access to such resources.

The Opportunity: Dive into Professional Music Production

The bursary includes:

  1. Full Day in a Professional Studio: Experience the excitement of recording in a state-of-the-art studio environment. You'll have access to professional-grade equipment and the opportunity to bring your musical vision to life.

  2. One day of production with your producer: This time will be available prior to the studio session to go through the song arrangement and development and any recording techniques or pre-production that may be required.

  3. Mentoring:  Working closely with an experienced industry professional who will guide you through your career. You will have three hours of mentoring which will cover aspects such as:

    • Releasing your music

    • Building your career

    • Promotional strategies

    • General Industry insights and career advice

This bursary is specifically designed for individuals who have faced systemic barriers and have not had previous experience in a professional studio setting.

Hen Hoose: Nurturing Collaborative Creativity

Hen Hoose is a groundbreaking songwriting collective based in Glasgow and funded by Creative Scotland. Our mission is to unite and amplify the voices of female and non-binary artists, writers, and producers across Scotland.

We Are Here Scotland: Amplifying BPoC Voices in the Arts

We Are Here Scotland is a dynamic Community Interest Company dedicated to elevating the presence and impact of BPoC artists and creatives in Scotland's cultural landscape.

Core objectives:

  • Provide platforms for BPoC artists to showcase their work

  • Facilitate connections within the BPoC creative community

  • Advocate for greater representation in Scotland's creative industries

  • Offer resources and opportunities to support career development

WAHS recognises the significant underrepresentation of BPoC individuals in Scotland's creative sectors and are committed to driving meaningful change.

Timeline

  • 15 November 2024: Applications open

  • 16 December 2024: Application deadline (11am UK Time)

  • 6 January 2025: Shortlisting process begins

  • 16 January 2025: Successful applicant notified

  • 24 January 2025: Deadline for awardee to confirm acceptance

  • February - March 2025: Studio day and mentoring sessions (exact dates to be arranged with the successful applicant)

Eligibility Criteria

We welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Identify as BPoC (Black People and People of Colour) women or non-binary

  • Are based in Scotland

  • Have faced barriers to accessing professional music production resources

  • Have not had previous experience working in a professional recording studio

  • Are passionate about developing their skills in music production

  • Can demonstrate a commitment to their musical practice (e.g., through recordings, performances, or songwriting)
